Origami Tips and Tricks

origami dogsWhen someone makes origami for the first time, the origami can come out poorly because of bad execution. To try to make origami making easy for beginners, I have compiled a list of origami tips and tricks to help you make the best origami.

My Origami Tips and Tricks:

  1. Make very sharp creases. Run your fingernail over the origami paper several times for the best results.
  2. Make sure to make all folds as accurate as possible. When the folds are done incorrectly, the finished product will not be symmetrical and will just look “off”
  3. Don’t start off trying to make very hard origami pieces. Start with trying to make easier origami, that doesn’t have many steps.
  4. Use large paper. For the beginner I recommend just using regular printer paper, and cutting it so that it into a square before use. When you become more experienced you can move on to smaller and fancier paper.
  5. Origami paper that is different colors on both sides is often helpful for identifying which side is the front and which side is the back.
  6. Read all the instructions for the Origami before starting to make it. This way you are less likely to miss a step and mess up, because you will know what is coming next and what you want to ultimately accomplish.
  7. Practice makes perfect! Don’t worry if you make a mistake several times, just keep on trying over and over. (Regular paper isn’t too expensive, so it shouldn’t be a big deal if you have to throw a few messed up origami away).
  8. Have fun! That is the point of making origami anyway. Try making origami with friends, or make an origami present for someone. Doing things like this will make Origami making an even more enjoyable hobby.

Those are my Tips and Tricks for origami making. The most important tip for good origami is creating very crisp and precise folds. This may take quite a lot of practice, but don’t worry, you will get the hang of it eventually. And of course, always remember to just have fun when making origami!
